2021, Critical Reviews in Oncology/HematologyCitation Excerpt :Corticosteroid therapy is usually considered to be the first line of treatment for patients with SCC, to reduce neurological deficits and palliate pain. Corticosteroid administration can improve neurological function by reducing vasogenic edema and inhibiting inflammatory reactions (Siegal, 1995; Doppman, 1990). Dexamethasone inhibits both IL-6 expression and nuclear factor (NF-κB) activity, which are two important pathways in multiple myeloma (Xiao et al., 2004; Kumar et al., 2003).
